Cates + Joe opted to shoot their engagement session in the Virginia Highland’s neighborhood of Atlanta, Ga. As an Atlanta, Georgia Wedding Photographer, I was excited to shoot around Virginia Highland’s for the first time! We started their session just after sunrise on a Sunday morning. This allowed us the opportunity to wander the empty streets for photos.
Cates + Joe met in March of 2017 on Bumble. Their first date was at Neighbors, a bar in Virginia Highland. They joke that they lived in the same neighborhood, went to the same coffee shops, restaurants, ran around the same streets, yet it was Bumble that brought them together.
A typical Saturday involves exercise, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends.
A college football Saturday involves all day engrossment in UGA games. Joe LOVES UGA football and Cates plays along. 😉 She’s there for the emotional highs and frustrating lows that comes along with being a true fan. No matter what, they’re always at a sports bar with chicken wings in hand. Sounds like an amazing Saturday if you ask me!
Cates loves that Joe challenges her. She loves that he believes in her and supports her in being the best version of herself. His ability to keep her calm. His reminders of what’s truly important in life. And most of all, his 12 year old boy sense of humor. hehe
Joe adores Cates kindness and warmth. Her ability to love makes life a bit easier for him. Just being in her presence brings a smile to his face. She’s the best person he’s ever known. Sighhh, so sweet!
This little park in Virginia Highland was the PERFECT little spot for more sweet photos! The sun was just peaking through the trees that covered them which made for a soft, dreamy look.
In December of 2019, Joe proposed to Cates at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
“I just finished school for the holiday break (WOOO!!). We went to Murphy’s, our neighborhood favorite, for a glass of wine before going to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens has always been one of my favorite places, so this was a great way to kick off the holidays! He proposed right in the middle of the gardens! I was very surprised! I knew it was coming but he made me think it’d be awhile for the ring to be ready! Joe had coordinated with my little sister, Meghan to have her come hide in the bushes and take pictures of the proposal. She took it very seriously and wore a trench coat, a scarf around her head, and huge sunglasses on a very cloudy day-just so I wouldn’t recognize her! It’s so special to us that we’ll always have photos of that sweet moment!”
Aren’t they the CUTEST?!?!
I seriously can’t get enough of them! I am so excited to be shooting their wedding next May in Norcross, Ga!!! To Cates + Joe, thank you SO much for welcoming me into your lives to capture your beautiful sunrise Virginia Highland engagement. I can’t wait to see you guys again on your wedding day!
